12A: Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No.1

For this assignment, I decided to interview 3 female, college students at the University of Florida. These interviews made it clear that this particular segment of young women (18-24 years old) are a perfect market for this product.

When the person you are interviewing becomes aware of their need, what is the very first thing they do to find a solution to their problem?
What sources of information do they look for?

  • There are multiple issues that arise when a woman has her period. This is a list of a few people that the interviewees thought of at the top of their heads whenever they run into a problem during that week.
    • Their gynecologists
    • Primary doctors
    • Friends and family
      • This is usually the first stop for these young women. They consult with their families and friends first and if they cannot figure out what to do they go or call their doctors.

When they search in Google, what are their search terms?
  • The main things they look for on the internet are:
    • related to pain
    • how much bleeding they should expect/is normal
    • if tampons are safe
      • tampon sizes
    • how to get rid of cramps
      • what is the best medication
      • home remedies

Do they talk to friends and family?
  • All three of my interviewees say that their friends and family, specifically female figures such as their moms or older sisters, were their first source of (non-medical) information when it came to period products. This was mainly because when they first started menstruating those were the people that were there to help and give them products to use. Also, growing up they did not work so they used the products that their moms used.
